Darkthrone - Dark Thrones and Black Flags (the most interesting this band has been in over a decade)
Grand Magus - Iron Will
Arghoslent - Hornets of the Pogrom
Leviathan - Massive Conspiracy Against All Life (shockingly oppressive, dark, and atmospheric...interestingly, on one of my CD players, it comes up as a Lurker
of Chalice album)
Earth - The Bees Made Honey In the Lion's Skull
Darkspace - III
Asva - What You Don't Know Is Frontier
Unleashed - Hammer Battalion (after all these years, still my favorite Swedish death metal band)
I Shalt Become - Requiem

Testament - The Formation of Damnation Deicide - 'Til Death Do Us Part Kataklysm - Prevail Moonspell - Night Eternal Kalmah - For the Revolution Origin - Antithesis Dark Fortress - Eidolon Exodus - Let There Be Blood I'm sure the new Legion of the Damned(Out in Dec.) will kick ass as well as Bloodsworn and Taake. But since they aren't out yet....I'll give them the ol' honorable mention. :P I'll need to edit some more in also when I can clear my head.

Seriously, how can not even one of you have the new Grand Magus on your lists? I only seldom listen to the traditional stuff, but "Iron Will" is
easily the most outright METAL album of 2008. I question anyone's devotion to heavy music that doesn't find something to like there. These Swedes

I normally would agree. However, this one has an assault rifle and appears to be rushing into battle listening to some grim ass shit like Maniac Butcher or

The face give me a vibe of Carpathian Forest, not as much Maniac Butcher...
In any case, Grand Magus does kick ass, haven't listened to "Iron Will" since it came out but I did so twice today and it's pretty great - I also saw them live a couple of days ago, which kicked even more fucking ass. Too bad they were only an opening act for Watain's 10 year anniversary concert, otherwise I would've rocked out. I remember back when they released "Wolf's Return", I actually listened to them occasionally then. Guess it's about time I give it another shot. o/ |
