Only the drums, and only the drums.

The relation to Tolkien's work is what originally sparked my interest, and part why I like Summoning so much. I think that's really an essential part of the band.

back to topic: that there is no shirts sized xxl. but thats most likely not the band's decision.

the song orthanc in minas morgul is kin ioff stuck ther and just disturbes.
they have a lot more bad locations like this that are just stuck there.-- Where Hope And Daylight Die- its in the middle and disturbes because you hear sileniuses voice and then all off a sudden this feamel and then again silenius. i wish he would do thet song instead of her- it has nice music. A distant flame before the sun-- is ruined towards the end with thous useless screaming thet repeats itselfe. and its a shame because its my favorite song of all the album. i wish i could just cut it from the song. the same problem with south away- all the song |

Quote: I agree, for me the whole ending of the song with "Now behold the awful price of treason.. Through dreams I influence mankind" is propably one of the single momentarily highlights of the whole Summoning discography. So to hear that for someone it ruins the whole song |

well its not summonings- its from a movie i think. and the voice kind of not sileniuses. i dont know the movie and dont like the voice- it sounds too much like hollywoods movie voice- too realistic.
althougt a distant flame before the sun is my favorite song of the whole cd... |

Lugburz is something I never listen to. Not necessarily a bad album, but just.. boring and disordered in comparison to other albums.
And drum machine fits Summoning perfectly - but I still, usually, like real drums better. Gives wider "organic surface" for a human to grab on - it's like resonance. Two waves (one wave for drums and one for myself) that match create resonance, but with real drums, that -usually- create more dynamic sound, the wave (to be matched to my wave) changes more, thus more likely to get the match.. But part of the Summoning sound is the movement outward from human. Humans often aren't very epic creatures.. Doubt if drum machines would ever replace real drums. Simply because to add the "swing" (often not appreciated in metal, tho) you should make each beat their own kind, so much job that it's just plain easier and faster to do with real drums. This is until we understand human brains enough to create algorithms that give out pleasing sound patterns - not likely to happen very soon. And I'd claim that you get better understanding of drum sounds when you actually play ones. Where you can just grab the sticks, beat different drums instead of slowish and complex clicking of buttons with a program - becomes complex clicking once you try to add the "swing" to sound.. |

You ought to do both, for perspective.

I'm amazed by Summoning, but I suggest...
-More change ups, more guitar parts in the music maybe, less repetitiveness -use of more keyboard instruments - need Lyrics booklet -real drummer would be amazing - need some live shows -no more female singers, the one on Stronghold ruined it for me

I don't think you really thought through your points when you wrote that...
First you want to change what make Summoning what they are, then you want them to add even more keyboards when they're frikkin' everywhere (!), you can actually hear what they're "growling" if you listen, haha, no, the last point is fine though. |

the only thing I can comment badly on about Summoning is the sound of guitars, especially on the last album...it is so obvious that they are done through
computer, and i think guitar is one of instruments not suitable for this way of recording...

I actually find the guitars on Oathbound to my liking, not as much as the Guitars on Minas Morgul but its a huge improvement from stronghold/lmhsyf :P

I would definetly agree with the more guitar parts. I would like to hear the guitar more, especially because i know what good riffs can Summoning come up with.
But use more keyboards and more guitars, doesn't really make sense, more than what? Live shows really wouldn't fit Summoning, you can find the lyrics
if you don't understand them, and a drummer would really be nice, i mean, the drumms from time to time sound too ... lifeless. But I don't think
that's going to happen any time soon.
Edit: Oh and I think that female voice can suit Summoning, if done right, I really enjoyed Where Hope and Daylight Die. I would really like to hear some new song with female vocals. If they still keep the song structre and the Summoning-ish feeling, it can turn out great.

I think the drums is one of the major parts which make Summoning what they are, with the polyrythms (or whatever it's called) which I guess would be near
impossible to play, or if not that very expensive for the various drums needed to get all the sounds.
Never found them lifeless either, hell, music isn't organic or anything like that by nature. |
