Okay, back on the topic. My personal favourite is Land of the dead, but I prefer the short mix. There is a lot more of choruses and I feel there is a different atmosphere between both version.

I think that guitarless songs are just as great as songs with guitar but there must be somewhat of a balance between the songs, or else, it would get too
common. Let me explain myself: I think that songs like that, as well as acoustic songs of other metal artists gives a different feeling from the rest of the
album and that's what gives the songs (and the album as well ) the little something that makes people "flash" on it. An all acoustic album is
good, but it's not different from any other album.

Always this Land of the Dead it seams, I hardly listen to that song :P
Mirdautas Vras got the trve grit, but it lacks the raw brutality of say Passing of the Grey Company! |

Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to
everything.

Northward, by a wide margin. When the keys drop out at the end and it's just the guitar and drums, arrrgh...SO EPIC. Makes me want to conquer my
neighbors.

Let us explore the might and glory of this masterpiece more systematically.
Here is my suggestion: Post the songs which are either average or above average - for you and this album. The order is of no importance. Probably the list contains four or five songs, but it could be more or less. If one or two songs are outstanding, you might indicate this by the three silmarils *** after the song name. Every song in your list gets a golden goblet* out of Smaug's treasure. It is well-deserved since "Oath Bound"-average means high quality. Each song with *** receives an extra goblet. (Some might think: "The longer my list, the greater my influence." Forget it. That's a fallacy. Thus, as nearly always, honesty is the best choice.) The three songs which collect the most goblets win three rings of musical enslavement. Let's start; here is my list: Across the Streaming Tide, Mirdautas Vras, Might and Glory***, Northward, Land of the Dead*** (I like the rest, too - especially Menegroth and the intro -, but these five songs are the best for me.) * You think that golden goblets are inappropriate for black metal? Well, your songs could obtain rotten goblets from Angmar carved out of orc bones if you prefer.

You've discovered my true nature, Maeglin, son of Eol. Indeed, I'm a cosmic Outer God impelled by the malicious, strange joy of bringing chaos into
language. Madness awaits you.
But this is not the only passion of Nyarlathotep, for he is eagerly curious: You would delight that god by telling your list (in accordance to the depicted method, of course). |

Since my postings were playful and fanciful, I might have failed to convey my purpose.
Therefore I'm going to express my intent concisely and clearly: This thread is a bunch of many, many separate opinions, and although they are worth reading, I would like to add another perspective: By zooming out of the mass of trees, we can uncover the structure of the forest. That's why I have proposed the "goblet-method"; it's easy, fun, and still more accurate than a poll. |
