well,I read The Hobbit,The Lord of the Rings and Silmarillion only. Silmarillion is my fav from those three I guess - many storylines, but I'm not a big fan of his works.

No!this is not Love..Love has to wake the urge to live. Love is Life..or Death? |

I have read all what darkspirit has read plus the lost tales. Which is an early version of the Silmarillion.
I like Silmarillion very much too, it is much more epic battles and more with the gods like any other of the stories. I like the beautiful descriptions. For example: And they were all listening to his stories until late in the night. And when they went to sleep, they dreamt of all the things they wished for. ![]() |

Lord C:
Have you read the original English version of the Silmarillion? If yes, is it very hard to read? Because I've read The Hobbit in English and I understood most of it, it was quite easy to read even though my English is not perfect, but I've heard that the Silmarillion is MUCH harder to read and far more complicated than the Hobbit. I'd like to read the original version of the Silmarillion too, but somehow I'm afraid it will be too hard for me =/ |

But now that you saw the movies. Can you ever imagine the book characters different from the movie?

Yeah that is my problem. I've seen the movies before reading any Tolkien book. Now I've started with The Hobbit and I always imagine Bilbo, Gandalf, etc... like in the movie. And it will be the same when I will be reading LotR. That sucks a bit. I should have read the books before watching the movie, so I would have imagined the characters with my own fantasy.

I felt like I had to read the books before the movies.
So I finished the LotR series in about two months. And that was a period when I didn't read a lot, now I finnish about one 400 paged book a week - hehe. And of course I've read The Hobbit too, and I've browsed a little in Lost Tales and Silmarillion. |

I've read Silimarillion in English and the first chapters are quite difficult, becasue all the Eldars (Gods) speak in archaic (old) English which is sometimes quite diffucult to understand... and there are a lot of different names.. but after 130 pages the book becomes very interesting and language is simplier...(normal now spoken English)
