I`ve been obsessed with this band since their debut back in 2001. On my books its the only band existing whose lyrics are more important than the music. Especially on the first three albums the lyrics are nothing short of brilliant. Heavily inspired by finnish mythology/paganism with a touch of horror and satanism, written in old finnish. Too bad that their lyrics are so difficult to translate because if you dont understand them youre missing the core of Ajattara.

We are gonna back track a little because I skipped a few in my haste. I left out bands like Immortal, Gorgoroth, Darkthrone, Burzum, Satyricon(I won't vouche for them though), etc. because I pretty much figured you had atleast heard of them, and if you had, you would have checked them out by now if you were interested. If you liked most of the bands I posted previously, then you'll enjoy these as well... Norway... Isvind Abomino Aetas(Raw, old shcool BM) Slagmark Sarkom Furze Bloodsworn Their album was recorded 10 years ago(2nd wave) and was only just released this year on Agonia records. Bloodthorn Last album "Genocide" is more Death Metal than Black, but all their previous works is more Black Metal. Very dynamic, check 'em out. Ragnor Twin Obscenity I only have two of their albums...For Blood, Honor and Soil & Where Light Touches None....both of which, I enjoy. A different take on BM. Keep of Kalessin Their newer stuff...does not impress me. I do enjoy Through Times Of War alot though. Ulver Older stuff is more raw and epic BM in the 2nd wave. Newer stuff is much slower and more experimental. You be the judge. Mactatus Similar to Dimmu Borgir and Old Man's Child on their newer material. Sweden... Setherial Watain Demonoid Demonoid = GOOOD TIMES!!! A perfect blend of Thrash, Death and Black Metal. I cannot over emphasize this album enough. First post in this thread has their sophomore album to be released this year. giddy giddy giddy. Poland... Behemoth After their 4th album, their style can not longer be described as BM. They become more Blackened Death Metal. Their last 2 albums, Demigod and The Apostasy, are Occult Death Metal. Thirst Netherlands... Countess You can thank Maeglin Black for this one Sauron Not to be confused with the Polish band of the same name. Germany.... Dark Fortress A different take on BM. I like I like. Kapein Necrofrost Recommended by several members here...that's how I found them. Austria... Hellsaw Abigor Silenius on vox for several albums/demos. Belphegor Fast and brutal Blackened Death Metal. I got a chance to shake Helmuth's(vox) hand in Sacramento, CA when I saw them live. Very cool and mellow guy. These dudes have a "thing" for nuns. lol. Switzerland... Samael With ties to the 1st wave of BM, these guys have gone through quite the progression of musical themes/genres. Their earlier work is definitely BM. Everything after Ceremony of Opposites is Industrial, Dark Wave/Metal, and/or Experimental. With the release of Passage Samael relied heavily on Keys and a drum machine(although Xy does do some drums during live shows....I saw them also). I highly recommend their newer stuff to their older material. Just preference though. Eternal is one of my fave albums.....EVAR! Darkspace Once again...you can thank the good ol' posters of a yuku message board for this one. That's how I found them. +2 for Swiss metal. Hungary... Forest Silence Sear Bliss Hungary's version of Dimmu Borgir. Feat. Members of Forest Silence. Italy... Stormlord Epic Black Metal. Nefarium EVOOOL!! France... Haemoth Temple of Baal Ukraine... Semargl SEMARGL is unrelenting, mechanical and spiteful black metal from Ukraine since 1997. A little similar to Behemoth, Satyricon, Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, and Thorns, but far too extreme in content and message for the mainstream. - Text taken from description on link provided. They hit it right on the head. and finally....the U.S. Cryptic Winds Demoncy Raw BM is an understatement here. Highly recommended by your many a poster here, including moi. Winter Of Apokalypse Between the bands I've posted up on both posts and the similar artists found in the links to those bands, you should have enough BM to gorge yourself for a while....probably until the 4th wave. Unless of course, you just don't prefer many a band here, which could happen. In either case, let me know how it's going....either here or a PM. I do take a certain amount of pride in this type of thing(helping others). I hope I've given you enough of a meaty bone to chew on for a while. Also, you can check out the Black Metal thread in this forum for more stuff recommended by others(I was hoping others would give suggestions here also), it's a good thread with lots of stuff to troll. Only 'cause people with extreme opinions often are those who are most vocal, so of course it always seem that way to something which you could call slightly mainstream in any said culture, minor or major. I think it's like with most albums, some people enjoy it immensly, some don't, most of them are in the middle ground. (Where I would say I am)

Hard to know for sure, if they remain silent, isn`t it? @Spinal Villain: I see that you mention the band Hellsaw (Austria) in your list. I never see people mentioning this band on metal forums usually. Glad to see that other people like this band, I discovered it recently and I enjoy it very much.

Forest Silence spawned due to Winters feeling that Sear Bliss wasnt going the way he wanted it to, weird though since Forest Silence now sounds more or less identical with nowadays Sear Bliss.. Isnt that ironic..

This fate or coincidence stuff is getting kinda scary. The same day I posted up Samael(Sat.), I got my new Samael album "Above" in the mail. This isn't your typical Samael album. In fact, had I not known it was Samael, I would never have guessed it was them. I've only heard it once so far, but it's got alot of energy and passion. Xy has held back alot on the keys this time around. Definitely better than their last 3 albums....although, with "A Touch Of Magic" and "Era One" their hearts weren't into it completely as they were just fulfilling contractual obligations to Century Media so they could find another label. Solar Soul though, was not my cup of tea. Vorph went on the record say this was a "stripped down metal album". I'm gonna have to agree with him on that.
